We believe that caring for and building relationships with Norfolk's children will play a critical role in their growth and development into healthy and well-adjusted teenagers and adults. While during the school year the public school system works hard to provide resources and instruction to promote the growth of Norfolk’s children, during the summer months, it is much more difficult for students to find these opportunities. Norfolk’s children are confronted with circumstances that limit their healthy growth and maturation, particularly in the predominately low-income neighborhoods that surround Young Terrace Recreational Center and P.B. Young, Sr. Elementary School. Therefore, local churches seek to eliminate social and economic barriers by collaborating with the Rec Center and P.B. Young to present theCAMP.
Over the course of the week, approximately 300 children ages 4 through 6th grade will participate in a multi-faceted summer camp, which will build character by teaching excellence in sports and arts while simultaneously introducing the campers to Christ. The instructors and camp counselors will come not only from Trinity Presbyterian Church and CrossRoads Church but from other partner churches and the Rec Center and P.B. Young as well. These groups working together will create a dynamic that promotes reconciliation across neighborhood lines and provides enriching experiences for all campers.
